GoPro is re-introducing its software on desktops with a fresh editing application for Mac. Despite the long-standing GoPro Studio and Player + ReelSteady desktop apps, the firm had primarily shifted its focus to mobile after acquiring Quik in 2016. Their latest desktop application is rooted in Quik, blending seamlessly with GoPro’s mobile apps. This setup enables users to start editing on the Quik mobile app and finish on their Mac, or vice-versa. The app features a beat sync tool that aligns your edits with the beat of the background music and an automatic highlight editing function. Even though the Mac editing suite could benefit from more features, GoPro ensures that all primary tools from the Quik mobile app will be operational on the desktop by the time a Windows version is launched later this year.
A $10 annual fee is incurred by non-device users for using the Quik mobile app. However, subscribers to any of the company’s additional tiers can access the desktop app without incurring an extra charge. In addition, the company is rebranding its GoPro Subscription to GoPro Premium, priced at $50 per year, and offers incentives like unlimited cloud backups, live streaming, equipment discounts, and guaranteed camera replacements. It additionally includes a discounted introductory offer of 50% off for the first year.
Furthermore, GoPro is introducing a higher subscription tier, GoPro Premium+. This includes all the benefits of Premium, as well as HyperSmooth Pro video stabilization and 500GB cloud storage for footage from non-GoPro cameras, compared to 25GB for Premium. Premium+ is priced at $100 per year, with an upgrade option available to Premium users for an additional $50.
